Act 101 of 1988 requires commercial, institutional and municipal establishments located in Pennsylvania’s mandated municipalities to recycle high-grade office paper, corrugated paper, aluminum and leaf waste. In addition, establishments must recycle any other materials included in the municipality's recycling ordinance or regulations, which may include glass, newsprint, plastics, and/or steel and bimetallic cans.
Our municipality is a PA-DEP recycling mandated community for curbside recycling and commercial recycling. The commercial recycling ordinance requires businesses and institutions to recycle cardboard, office paper, aluminum cans and at least three (3) of the following items: steel cans, brown glass bottles, green glass bottles, clear glass bottles, #1 plastic bottles, and/or #2 plastic bottles. Businesses or institutions may accomplish this requirement via the county's recycling program, private sector collection (hauler or recycling firm), corporate arranged recovery programs, or by taking the materials to a drop off site or recycler by their own means.
